Put Your Best Foot Forward This Summer!

The Podiatry Team

Foot problems are extremely common. However, if you are suffering from troublesome toes or a problematic planter, you may feel self-conscious when getting your feet out.

At Forest Foot and Health Clinic, our podiatry and foot health team are ready to tend to your foot health needs. Here are some of the most common issues we deal with on a daily basis, enabling you to stay footloose and feeling fabulous this summer:

Fungal Nail Infections

Crusty, thickened and discoloured nails are a tell-tale sign of a fungal nail infection. Fungal nails are unsightly, may be deformed and can often cause discomfort for the person suffering. They may also cause embarrassment and anxiety when removing socks and shoes over the summer period.

The good news is we can do something to help. At Forest Foot and Health Clinic we are able to offer cutting edge technology; Lunula Laser Therapy, which is able to resolve unsightly and uncomfortable fungal nails, making them a thing of the past.

Corn and Calluses

Corns are usually conical in structure and are caused by pressure. They are commonly found on the tops of toes and on the balls of the foot. Corns can be extremely painful and, when left untreated, have the potential to develop into ulcers. Callus is defined by a build-up of hard raised skin. Like corns, calluses can develop due to pressure on unwanted areas of the foot caused by such things such as ill-fitting shoes.

Thankfully, corn and callus treatment is quick, easy and painless when carried out by a qualified professional. Our podiatry and foot health team will also be able to advise and recommend appropriate footwear and possible orthotics to keep your feet comfortable, corn and callus free.

Athlete's Foot

Itchy, sore and easy to catch, athletes’ foot is a common fungal foot infection of the skin. Usually seen between the toes and on the soles of the feet, it can be very uncomfortable. It causes itching, flaking and sometimes splitting of the skin. In addition, it can leave feet susceptible to secondary infection.

Athletes foot treatment is generally very effective and successful when following appropriate guidance and advice from your podiatrist or foot health professional.

Spores can travel - so remember this phrase "socks before jocks”, otherwise itching may develop elsewhere!

Verrucas

Verrucas are a common complaint amongst children and adults alike. Caused by the HPV virus, verrucae are benign skin lesions. They may vary in size and are generally found on the bottom of the foot.

Over-the-counter remedies are available, however verrucae are notoriously stubborn and often hard to banish. Our podiatry team are able to offer a range of specialist verrucae treatments including; SWIFT microwave verruca treatment, CryoPen, Verrutop and Falknor's needling.

Are you about to go barefoot on the beach?

Ouch! We commonly see patients with the suntan pattern of sandals on their feet, but all too often, we see sunburn and blistering from over exposure to the sun. Do not forget your feet when you apply your sun cream. Do wear footwear on the beach, often sharp shells and, sadly, litter left on a beach can be a hidden danger to your feet.

Whatever your foot health needs this summer, our team is here to help you.
